Bike Around the Bay is a fun, two-day cycling event that supports an important cause: the protection and preservation of Galveston Bay. In 2016, Bike Around the Bay raised over $480,000 to support the Galveston Bay Foundation and its mission to protect and preserve Galveston Bay for current and future generations.

Fundraising Requirements

Two-Day Rider: $250 minimum

One-Day Rider: $175 minimum

Virtual Rider: No fundraising minimum

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Bike Around the Bay is still scheduled for October 21-22, 2017, but we realize this is no ordinary year. We recognize that many of you and your families, friends and neighbors have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. While the success of the ride is very important to our continued efforts to advocate for Galveston Bay, we also know that flood recovery is very important to our community. For this reason, for all funds raised September 14th through the end of our fundraising period, we will dedicate 50% of the money raised above your fundraising minimum to local flood recovery efforts.*

If you are a two-day rider, that means 50% of the funds you raise above $250 will be donated, and for one-day riders, we will donate half of the funds you raise above $175. Last year, riders raised over $100,000 above the fundraising minimum. If we can reach that level again this year, Bike Around the Bay will be able to invest $50,000 in flood recovery for our community. We hope to do even more this year.

*We will honor requests from riders who prefer that all funds they raise for Bike Around the Bay stay within the Galveston Bay Foundation. Please email

All cyclists are required to meet their fundraising minimum prior to packet pick-up. The fundraising window will remain open until November 6, 2017 for fundraising prizes and top fundraiser purposes only.

Your fundraising efforts last year helped us permanently protect more than 1,700 acres of coastal wetland and prairie, collect 3.4 tons of trash and recyclables from our watershed, and begin researching dolphin populations in the Bay. Plus, much more! With your help, we would like to accomplish even more this year! With the funds raised from this year's ride, the following will be possible:

  • Building one mile of shoreline protection to restore up to 50 acres of intertidal marsh
  • Finalizing construction of our first rookery island
  • Conserving freshwater by conducting 7 rain barrel workshops that engage homeowners
  • Planting 4 acres of estuarine intertidal marsh through Marsh Mania volunteer events
  • Coordinating a trash cleanup site as part of the Texas Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup program
  • Utilizing 60 tons of recycled oyster shells to build over 500 feet of oyster reef

In order to achieve these goals, for the first time since 2013 the Bike Around the Bay Committee made the decision to raise the fundraising minimums for this year's ride. One Day riders will need to raise at least $175 and Two Day riders $250. We know fundraising doesn't come naturally to everyone, so we have updated our participant center and developed a few ideas to help you meet your fundraising minimum. Remember that people love to support friends and family and the causes they’re passionate about. So, with the help of your friends and family, we hope you will not only reach but exceed your goal! Thank you for making all this possible through your participation in Bike Around the Bay! We look forward to seeing you for Bike Around the Bay on October 21-22, 2017.
