Welcome to My Personal Page
On October 21-22, 2017, I will be riding around Galveston Bay in the 11th annual Bike Around the Bay cycling event. I am riding to support the largest and most productive bay in Texas and to support local flood recovery efforts in Houston. Galveston Bay provides amazing recreational and tourism opportunities like boating, fishing and bird watching while also supporting an important commercial fishing industry that puts Galveston Bay shrimp, oysters and blue crab on our dinner plates. It also serves as the home for a large amount of industrial activity including shipping and refining that drives our local economy.
In a normal year, all the funds from this event would support efforts such as protecting eroding shoreline around the Bay, restoring bird rookery habitat, engaging homeowners across the bay with rain barrel workshops, cleaning up trash across the Bay, constructing new oyster reefs across Galveston Bay, and so many more things to make Galveston Bay a place we can all enjoy.
This year however, GBF will donate 50% of the funds I raise above my fundraising minimum to support flood recovery and Hurricane relief in the Houston area. Last year, Bike Around the Bay riders raised more than $100,000 above their fundraising minimums. If we can do that again this year, we will raise an additional $50,000 for flood recovery. GBF will split these funds between the Greater Houston Community Foundation flood recovery fund (https://ghcf.org/) created by Mayor Turner and Judge Emmett and the Clear Creek Community Church flood relief fund (http://clearcreekrelief.org/).
Please consider making a tax-deductible gift to support my ride this year. Your support will support two things that are important to me-the health of Galveston Bay and the recovery efforts of our community from the devastating flooding.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will help support our local flood recovery efforts and the Galveston Bay.
